How We Met the Rigorous Standards of B Corp Certification
When Michelle and Susan founded HigherRing, their goal was to create quality jobs by providing extraordinary customer service and back office support to their like-minded clients. They believe that GREAT customer service is a valued skill and that customer service professionals, when engaged as members of a company's marketing and operations team, can play an important role in attracting and retaining customers. We actively look for and partner with clients who also understand that customer service, if done well, pays for itself.
HigherRing is proud to hire our people as employees, provide a living wage, healthcare and other benefits including company ownership at management levels to our team. Our team members work from home, throughout the U.S. and our use of chat software means that our teams can collaborate even more closely than team members working in the same physical location. We problem solve and crowdsource solutions to difficult customer issues in real time and create a community environment that is unique in this industry. We work hard to ensure flexible schedules so that employees can work around family and volunteer commitments. We celebrate our employees starting at the bottom and working their way up; 100% of our movement through the ranks are internal moves. We encourage 401K participation, subsidize internet usage, provide paid training and company hardware and have a robust wellness program where we celebrate movement and healthy food. Our leadership team takes shifts on a regular basis to ensure we understand our employees’ experiences and can advocate for win-win policy changes that make sense for customers, clients and employees.
One percent of our profits are donated to environmental organizations specifically working to solve the climate change challenges of our time.
B Corporations are a way to transcend the contradictions between the ineffective parts of the social sector and myopic capitalism. -New York Times
Think of it this way: USDA certifies organic foods, and Good Housekeeping puts its seal of approval on quality products, like washing machines and skillets. And since 2006, a nonprofit organization called B Lab has been certifying corporations it deems to be concerned about their communities and the environment. -NPR

2020 Community Giving
In 2020, through our involvement with 1% for the Planet, the leadership team asked ourselves how we could slant the funds we usually donate towards environmental causes towards issues of racial inequality. We found some great organizations—some that actually work in, or close to the communities, in which we exist. They work on a range of issues from food insecurity and urban agriculture, to diverse representation in the outdoors and leadership in climate advocacy. We invite you to check them out and support their important work.
