How We Met the Rigorous Standards of B Corp Certification
HigherRing was founded by Michelle Hirons and Susan Hopkinson to create quality jobs by providing conscious companies with extraordinary outsourced customer service and operations support using savvy, creative, and driven employees from American communities.
While we started in customer service support, as we have grown with our clients, we have scaled into full operations support including bookkeeping and financial operations. We actively look for, and partner with clients who are trying to change the world for the better.
HigherRing is proud to hire our people as employees and to provide a living wage (at least), paid time off, healthcare, and other benefits including company ownership. We work hard to ensure flexible schedules so that employees can work around family and volunteer commitments. We celebrate placing our employees with clients if it makes sense for their future growth. We match 401K participation, provide paid training and company hardware, and have a robust financial wellness program with 0% loans. Our leadership team closely monitors our teams to provide mentorship and assistance in dealing with tricky challenges.
Our team members work from home, throughout the U.S. (and now Canada) and our use of process-based and communications software means that our teams can collaborate even more closely than team members working in the same physical location. We problem-solve and crowdsource solutions to difficult customer issues in real-time and create a community environment that is unique in this industry.
One percent of our profits are donated through 1% for the Planet to organizations specifically working to solve the challenges of our time and we advocate in person with the various elected representatives of the communities in which we serve for voting rights, gun control, women's rights, social justice, and climate change.

B Corporations are a way to transcend the contradictions between the ineffective parts of the social sector and myopic capitalism. -New York Times
Think of it this way: USDA certifies organic foods, and Good Housekeeping puts its seal of approval on quality products, like washing machines and skillets. And since 2006, a nonprofit organization called B Lab has been certifying corporations it deems to be concerned about their communities and the environment. -NPR
